Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay pgs. 1-230
So far I have found this book to be really good. It takes history and makes it interesting but combining it with real life. Sarah’s Key is about a writer, Julia, who has been assigned to write a piece about the roundup of Jews to the Vel’ d’Hiv and how the French were responsible for it. As Julia, an American that lives in France, uncovers the French’s secret, she also uncovers a family secret that sends her on a mission out to find Sarah, a Jewish child at the time of the roundup. There have been many twist and turns in the book that I did not expect. At first, this book started out slow but once I got through the first few chapters it got much better. I really like how the author turned the historical events of what the French did into a story that keeps you wanting to read more. Normally, reading about the Vel’ d’Hiv’ and the Holocaust would just be facts and boring but this author manages to make it interesting and leaves you wanting to know more about what happened. It makes you remember about how horrible it was back then, what the Jews were treated like and what they went through. Sarah’s Key will make you want to laugh, cry and everything in between.
